Template Filming in Africa
magine film making as having a newborn baby. The long hours of story development, writing screenplay, casting, location scout and script breakdown is to filmmakers what birth throes are to expectant mothers. One cannot understand the almost insane feeling till they are thrown in the bubble.
Only a handful of men possess the strength to watch a woman give birth without throwing up his ‘brunchner’. Like this woman, same is the fate of storytellers.
Setting up, talent rehearsal, setting up shots and checking the takes to post production, all activities must be coordinated and tracked to achieve high production value.
Filming is akin to a woman carrying a seed in her womb for months. Her body feels like its tearing apart as the seconds tick away. In a remote community, middle-aged women trained as midwives are telephoned in the middle of a cold night to assist a teenager in labour.
The Good Samaritan leaves her family behind, running behind the to-be-father to the makeshift ward. Sometimes, there is no to-be-father, nor midwife, nor Good Samaritan in the picture but only a naive relative to help receive the newborn. The uncertainty is chilling. Completing ten days shoot in Africa, a continent bedeviled with socio-economic, political, religious and ethnic uncertainties requires more than textbook knowledge from Hollywood.
Certainly, we know also that these regions usually have the best stories waiting to be told. Consider the forest-clothed slopes of Mount Kenya to the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania beautifully superimposed by amazing landscapes. The sights are perfect paintings. The people and their lands, fauna and flora and they interact with each other. By creating and nurturing the right relationships, a project’s success rate is increased exponentially.
We understand the terrain and the psychology that fuels a buy-in into a project. Over the years, our team has invested in assembling and training a mix of locals and foreigners who execute multiple projects. We commit to projects our clients will be proud of, working around the clock to deliver the best. No excuses whatsoever.
